"In this regard, regardless of the denials made by SYL at trial, the Corruption Eradication Commission believes and hopes that the panel of judges can grant what the KPK prosecutors are demanding," he said.
Previously, SYL had been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
However, this sentence is very different from the demands for the defendant, the inactive Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kasdi Subagyono, and the former Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad Hatta, who were only sentenced to 6 years in prison.
The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) confirmed that SYL and his friends had been found guilty of carrying out joint and ongoing extortion of his subordinates at the Ministry of Agriculture. The prosecutor said that the consideration for mitigating Kasdi and Hatta's light charges was that neither of them enjoyed the proceeds of the crime from the extortion case.
